This afternoon, a teenager who is wise beyond her years posted this on her Facebook Page:
What does it mean to really fall in love with God?
What a great question!! After some contemplation, I answered her. I have been thinking about the question for the remainder of the day. Here is my answer plus a few more things I have thought about.
- To be so excited in the morning when you wake up because you get to go spend time with Him.
- To look forward to telling Him about the great day you had or cry to Him when it wasn’t.
- To smile when He whispers in your ear that little thing you needed to hear.
- To have an “aha” moment when He helps you see something more clearly.
- To view a sunset and be in awe that you are friends with the One who painted it.
- To have the assurance that Someone has “got your back” in this crazy world.
- To laugh knowing that all the little things that happen in your day are not just “coincendence.”
- To trust that although obeying doesn’t make logical sense, you know God has a plan.
- To have a beautiful book of letters and promises He wrote for you.
- To be filled with confidence because you know He delights in you!
- To go to bed with peace in your heart because no matter what storm is raging around you, He is your calm.
How do you fall in love with God? The same way you fall in love with a person…Spend time with Him. Be so excited to spend time with Him that it consumes your thoughts! Talk to Him. Read those letters in the Bible He has written to you and perhaps write some back. Learn more about Him. Grab a pen/paper and ask Him to talk to you, listen intently and write it down.
Years ago, I asked God to place within me a strong desire to follow Him for the rest of my life. I never want to lose that desire and therefore that love. Won’t you take time to pray that God gives you such a desire for Him that falling in love with Him would be natural?
